Our family is incredibly grateful for the care my father received at Hallmark Care Center. The staff was truly amazing—compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring every step of the way. They consistently kept our family informed and made us feel included and reassured throughout the process. It was clear that they don’t just do a job here—they truly care about their residents and treat them with dignity and respect. We couldn’t have asked for better care, and I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place where their loved one will be well cared for.

Today showed me the truth about this place and it is horrifying. I went to see my dad after being told he had gotten sick. I walked into a room that looked abandoned. Dust everywhere. Trash on the floor. A smell that told me nobody had cleaned anything in far too long. No nurse anywhere. Nobody watching him. Nobody caring. This is not an accident. This is not being short staffed. This is flat out neglect. My father had bed sores on his back and on his butt. Bed sores only happen when someone is left in the same position for way too long. That alone tells me exactly how little attention he is getting. They are giving him a dangerous mix of medications that he does not need including morphine. He is not in pain that requires that and they know it. They are sedating him so he is easier for them to ignore. When we tried to ask what was going on the nurse named Dorkis spoke to us with pure attitude as if we were a burden for demanding basic answers about my father’s health. Another nurse tried to defend her by saying she was sick. If she is sick she should not be working around vulnerable people. And being sick is no excuse to treat us with disrespect when they are the ones failing to do their job. That excuse was pathetic. My father has a severe yeast infection all over his private area because they leave him sitting in soiled diapers for long periods of time. His skin is raw red inflamed and clearly damaged from constant moisture and zero care. This did not happen overnight. This happened because the staff did not clean him and did not change him and did not protect his skin. They left him like that. On purpose or out of laziness it does not matter. The result is the same. He is suffering because of them. The carpet in his room looks untouched by a vacuum. The room looks like it has been ignored for weeks. When we asked my dad when he last had a bath he said it has been over a month. A month without a proper cleaning in a facility that claims to care for people. That alone is unforgivable. I stayed quiet for his sake because he did not deserve a scene but this is not something I will let slide. The health department may not do much but the VA will hear every detail. This facility needs a full investigation. Staff need to be hair tested for drugs not just given an easy test they can pass without consequences. The owner should be fined heavily for allowing these conditions. This is abuse disguised as care and anyone who steps foot in that building can see it. Families trust this facility with their loved ones. What they did to my father shows exactly how little that trust means to them. If this is what they allow to happen to him then imagine what is happening to everyone else behind those closed doors. This place needs to be held accountable and exposed for what it really is. I'm not done yet. This BS will not stand. Across Iowa, nursing homes are getting in trouble, but what's the Iowa Health Board doing about it?Nothing at all so no im calling the va to help and Im reporting this at a federal level. That place needs deep cleaning, staff included. contact the Iowa Long-Term Care Ombudsman (toll-free: 866-236-1430) if you believe there’s been abuse, mismanagement of personal property, or retaliation. The administrator called me after reading my review to deny everything, then proved my point by surrounding my wife and acting like idiots, convinced she somehow was hired private nurse. They forced her to leave and then called his 81-year-old POA, lying to her just to retaliate. That is illegal under Iowa Code 441-81.13, which prohibits retaliation. She also accused us of recording them, acting shocked that I knew anything, like she was putting on a show. I know what I know because I talk to other residents’ families and three people who interviewed there. And the medical information? It was left out in the open on a table where anyone could see it. Their negligence, not my doing.

My mother has been residing here since June. The staff exhibits exceptional personalities and professionalism, consistently performing at a high level. Through daily visits, I have had the pleasure of getting acquainted with most of the daytime staff and have been exceedingly impressed with their courteous demeanor and unwavering dedication to the residents. The management and administrators have been extremely supportive, and have been excellent to work with. Despite my mother’s stay not being a permanent situation, I’d highly recommend Hallmark to anyone looking for either short term, or long term care.

We relocated to the area a year ago and were skeptical about moving my father-in-law from Colorado as well. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. My father- in-law received wonderful care from such a professional, kind staff. We were always kept informed about any health changes and we feel he was so clean and well cared for.
