I stayed here 24/7 with my mother for three weeks as she was declining after a severe fall and became mortified to see what goes on behind the scenes. I saw care plans blatantly disregarded, intensely sweet desserts served to diabetics, and residents in severe distress. I met a dignified elderly gentleman whose appearance rapidly declined after arrival. One morning, he waited for me to pass by his door and begged me to persuade the staff to bath him. He said they kept putting him off, and it had been a whole week. I felt deeply for him as I realized his unwashed hair, dirty clothes, and beard growth testified to his situation. I immediately intervened, insisting they give him his bath. As they wheeled him off to the shower room, he turned back to me with tears in his eyes as he whispered, "Thank you..." I didn't have the legal power to remove my mother, and my mother wasn't strong enough to be moved. If you have an option to avoid submitting your loved one to these conditions, I hope you will do so.
