What Families Think

Fairmount is a family-owned Tucson community with a large body of overwhelmingly positive Google reviews praising individual staff members by name for warmth and attentiveness, along with lively music and animal therapy programs. A handful of reviewers, however, describe serious lapses—impersonal care, a medication error, and a resident being asked to leave when needs became complex—that stand in sharp contrast to the mostly glowing feedback.

The Good

  • Staff repeatedly named and praised for compassion
  • Family-owned with hands-on, involved ownership
  • Frequent live music, pet therapy, and reminiscence activities
  • Bright, clean courtyards with resident farm animals
  • High staff-to-resident ratio noted by families
  • Wellness director closely tracks medications and care plans

The Bad

  • Several 1-star reviews describe impersonal or inconsistent resident care
  • One report of a medication error that nearly proved fatal
  • One account of a resident being asked to leave when care needs increased
  • No published pricing available for cost comparison

About Fairmount Assisted Living and Memory Care

Fairmount Assisted Living and Memory Care

Choosing to place a loved one into assisted living is a difficult decision. We want to help make this as easy of a transition as possible by providing as much information and knowledge to our family members as possible.

Assisted Living is comprised of 3 levels of care. Supervisory, Personal, and Directed.

Supervisory Level:

This level of care is the lowest. We provide standby assistance or assistance only as needed. Room, meals, laundry, housekeeping, activities, and medical oversight are included based on the residents desired level of staff involvement.

Personal Level:

This is the second level of care where hands on assistance is needed for at least one activity of daily living. Care for this level usually includes moderate assistance for bathing, grooming, incontinence care, and medication administration. Individuals needing Personal Level care can communicate most of the needs verbally and can still ambulate independently or with the use of an aid. This level of care can include individuals with the early to moderate signs of memory issues.

Directed Level:

This is the third level or highest level of care. This level of care is completely hands-on assistance for most or all needs. This level includes individuals who are usually incapable of communicating their needs and are not able to make safe choices on their own, and they are unable to remove themselves from danger. This level is usually assigned to those with late-stage memory issues or rapidly changing memory issues.

Assisted Living Regulations allow for Behavioral care IF AND ONLY IF the behaviors can be managed by therapy or medication.

Main Building

Memory care caters specifically to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through dementia-friendly activities and staff trained in the psychological and physical effects of cognitive impairments. Here at the main building, we handle a more directed level of care so if your loved one feels anxious or has challenging behaviors, wandering or have trouble with reassuring them at home, memory care usually is the way to go. Amongst some of our resources we do music therapy/pet therapy, redirection, reminiscence therapy and dementia awareness simulation. We also offer specialized diets to make certain that our residents are eating the calories they need that best fits their needs and preferences.

Rook

For more of an independent living setting, the Rook House leans more towards Supervisory and Personal care. We offer three meals a day with a nice social setting around the table to encourage more interaction between the residents. They are independent enough to do normal activities of daily living unless they ask for assistance. This house is a 10-bed home addition to Fairmount that is perfect for those making the transition into Assisted Living. This home was designed for Assisted Living and early-stage dementia. We provide beautiful stimulating surroundings creating a home that nurtures health and well-being and is mindful of each person’s unique, physical, mental, spiritual, and social nature.

Why Choose Fairmount

•    We are heavily staffed with a 5:1 resident to care staff ratio. We want our staff to have additional time to spend with each resident, to hear their stories, learn what makes them special and spend quality time reminiscing.

•    Our residents aren’t just a room number- We can train someone how to properly provide care, but we can’t train someone how to be compassionate. Therefore, we only hire CARING individuals who have chosen this path because they love what they do.

•    In order to give back to our care staff, we are the ONLY assisted living with a burnout/compassion fatigue schedule strategy. This is a schedule that we developed to ensure that our care staff are able to take care of themselves first, so they can give more to our residents.

•    Their senior-centric activities are designed to stimulate the mind, body, and soul. We take a wholistic approach that focuses on making our days more substantial and enjoyable.

•    Our life enrichment programs include:

o    Painting/Art Class
o    Live Music- Piano, Guitar, Violin and Banjo
o    Pet Therapy with Kittens, Dogs, Pigs, Horses, Ponies, Bunnies and More

Our experience with Fairmount has been wonderful. Our family member has been there for over 3 years, and we have been impressed with the quality of engagement offered, the meeting of his physical needs, and the willingness to assist in any way needed. I cannot speak to anyone's negative experience, but ours has been excellent. The staff is always willing to communicate with you and respond to questions and concerns.

Resident care is not constant. Resident care is very impersonal and little compassion towards residents. Menu is very limited and activities are very few

I own Assisted Living Locators here in Tucson, and I’ve toured and placed families at Fairmount many times. I can honestly say that Daver is truly one of the jewels of the community. He is always helpful, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond — even on his days off. Everyone loves him, and we are all so grateful he is there. Fairmount is tucked away from the busy main streets, making it such a peaceful place to visit. Sitting in the courtyards without traffic noise is something families really appreciate. One of the many things my families love — and I do as well — is the wide variety of musical activities offered to residents. There is always something engaging and uplifting happening. Fairmount also offers plenty of quiet spaces for residents who prefer a calmer, more peaceful environment. The courtyards are absolutely gorgeous, complete with chickens, bunnies, and I believe even a turtle! The rooms are beautiful, and each resident has their own private half bath, which families truly value. Another thing that makes Fairmount so special is that it is locally and family owned right here in Tucson. Owner Mattie Nason is actively involved every single day, and her love and care for the residents shines through in everything she does. She treats the residents like family, and it truly shows. I love Fairmount and everyone there!
