About Dacota Assisted Living

The Dacota is an assisted living community in Aberdeen, Maryland, operating two historic mansion locations in Harford County. The organization has provided care in Maryland since 1983, with its flagship location established in 2003 in a mansion built in 1896, and its Paradise location housed in a historic mansion constructed in 1865.

The community maintains a room-based fee structure that covers nearly all services and does not increase as residents age or require additional care. Services are adjusted based on each resident's changing needs rather than cost considerations.

Both locations preserve the original charm of their historic buildings while incorporating modern healthcare standards and amenities.

I can’t believe I haven’t left a review before now! When our Mom first came to the Dacota, She was on hospice care (They had given her 6 to 8 weeks to live) Mom has had three more birthdays since then! Our family gives Mark and the staff at the Dacota all the credit! The care they gave her turned everything around! The atmosphere is that of a warm, clean, beautiful and yet comfortable home that makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time with all the gorgeous stained glass windows, Tiffany lamps, inlaid floors, 10’ pocket doors, the craftsmanship of the woodwork and antiques galore! But the most important thing cannot be overstated! The peace of mind that our family has with our precious 93 year old Mom being there is absolutely priceless! We have had the luxury of becoming our Mom’s daughters again and not her full time caregivers. The staff there is top notch to say the least! They have truly earned our trust over the years and when our Mom tells us that she feels safe and warm being there, we know without a doubt she is in the right place! All the home cooked meals are prepared right there where every resident (and guests!) can enjoy the wonderful aromas created in the kitchen! Another thing not to be taken for granted. Plus, it is a huge, brightly lit dining room where they are encouraged to be together and socialize. Families are welcome to gather there with their loved ones for get togethers or parties. We feel like we have a whole extended family there! Medically speaking, the care again is the best. They reach out to family when necessary just to keep you up to date with your loved one. And when accidents happen, as did with our Mom, she took a fall and broke her femur. After surgery to repair it, she went to recover at a local rehab center that did NOTHING for her, (outside of a few of her nurses that truly cared) She was way over medicated and their answer was to put our Mom in Hospice. Mark came to our rescue and he took Mom back into the Dacota. In 2 days, he/they had her up and walking with her walker!! This is the second time that Mark, Kyle, Annabelle, Kevin, Pammy, Melony, Tange and their nurse Sandy have saved our Mom and brought her back to us! We love them all!

I highly recommend Dacota Assisted Living in Aberdeen. My mom lived there for 3 years prior to her passing and received wonderful care. The staff is wonderful and genuinely cares about the residents and provides them great care with compassion and empathy. They had excellent communication with me as well and gave me peace of mind that my mom was well taken care of. Not much phased them and they are able to handle a lot of care needs. The home has a warm and loving feel and the residents who live there are friends and family to each other. My mom loved the family feel and felt very safe there. She had dementia so this was very important. Also, the staff really got to know her and what worked best for her care. I am so thankful to everyone who works at Dacota for the love and care they gave my mom. Oh and all of the meals are homemade every day!

The owner, Mark, and his staff have taken excellent care of my mother for the past 5 years. Mark and the staff treat the residents with love and respect. Because Dacota is a relatively small facility, Mark and the staff know each resident well and can spot any physical or mental issues that may arise and handle any issues promptly. If I could give Dacota a 10-star rating, I would.

Our mother has been here for 2 years now. The owner & staff are wonderful, very caring & attentive to every resident. They make homemade meals everyday. The residents are always clean & wearing clean clothes. The house is cozy & decorated festively for holidays. We are so thankful the Lord led us here & know our mother is being well cared for. And it's nice that we can stop in to visit anytime without having to call first. Just can't say enough about how happy we are & about how content & comfortable our mother is here.

My Mother, Lucille is currently a resident at The Dacota House. The staff is wonderful. We are so thankful to have found a home that is more like a place to live that treats her like family. There are only 10 residents. The staff is very well aware of everything going on with her. They are pleasant and professional. Its a difficult decision to find the right place for someone you love so dearly. We feel blessed to have her at The Dacota House.
