Sunshine does not adhere to community HOA rules, nor respects the homeowners, neighbors, in the community. They break the rules with disregard for the neighbors.

I was in a group home for about 7 months and I was treated horribly because of my gender and my beliefs

I was here in my late teens (came in at 17). These group homes will discriminate, abuse, steal, and treat kids like slaves. I was in three houses, each worse than the last. If youre a manager's favorite you get extra food, clothes, first picks of everything. The staff will lie to you, for example i was told when i graduated high school id be thrown out on the street that night. Come to find out CPS was supposed to get me a apartment when i graduated, the conveniently left that out. Another example of the "care" sunshine provides is when i got food poisoning, i was so sick i couldnt move or get out of bed. But yet the staff put the broom next to my bed and called me lazy, and wrote me up. Later the house manager said my illness was no excuse and "being dead is the only excuse not to do your chores". Routinely they attepted to force religion on the kids and if there were the "wrong" faith they would constantly discriminate against them. The owner himself, Simon, insulted my religious beliefs on the thankfully few occasions i ran into him. The whole organization is rotten from top to bottom. The house staff treat the kids like trash, the managers treat the kids like trash, the owner treats the kids like trash. My advice if your kids are in Sunshine please for their sake fight to get them out or moved to any place else. I feel so sorry for any kids there still now.

staff AND house managers let kids doing dirty things with each other there was even a female house manager who touch boys in the homes let them drink, smoke, go out past bedtime, etc. these homes are terrible and be shut down!! coming from someone who was in there from 13-16 years old and I'm 19 now I've had a lot of time to reflect on what's happened to me in there. I know a few kids in there still and they still complain to this day how terrible it is in there and I'm truly sorry for them or any kid who gets placed in this company :(

I have been in and out of the system since I was a little kid. From all the group homes I have been this one has been the better ones for me. I have lived in Sunshine since 2003-2006. Simon and Elizabeth has been very kind to me. They really put the effort of making sure the kids get nice new homes and always have summer break trips to California every year. All the staff is ok. It's a hit a miss sometimes. It takes a special person to want to work there to actually put little effort of caring the kids. If anyone out there seeing this and thinking of working there. Be prepare, don't go in thinking the kids are going to be well behave. You have to have patience and listen. Be there and most of all comfort them. All these kids came from different situations and act out due to not understanding what is going on and why this happens to them. I really feel bad for all those kids. I know how that feels and it can be very lonely and lots of anxiety. Kids, no matter what age. They will act out whether it's a positive or a negative. To always seek some kind of attention. They all need love. Don't give up when the kids seem to be pushing you away. Stay firm and show you are going to be there at least the time being. Show the kids it doesn't have to be this way and they can change their future path and do great for themselves. Simon, you're awesome. One day I will stop by to say hi. I'm a mother now myself and I definitely showing my son the right way to be a mother to him. So my son can never have to experience what I went through. Heartbreaking.
