I’ve been to a few different treatment centers- I attended the Adolescent ED Recovery Program in Occonomowoc a few years ago and I can easily say that this program was one of the best.

I was extremely hesitant and did not want to be there whatsoever. If I did not attend I would have been sanctioned. I tried to sign myself out within the first few days however the team worked with my parents to find a way to keep me there (thank god).

I flew in from Philadelphia and this angel of a lady drove me and my mom to the site instead of us having to venture our way there ourselves. Upon arrival you are greeted by the receptionist and given paperwork to fill out. The facility itself is new, modern, and although it is a hospital it looks almost more like a hotel. There is also a cafe and a mental health gift shop which was really nice. Once I was taken into the unit I was put in a room with my mom which is where they did all the clinical questions, explained the program more, outcomes, and met with my therapist and nurse. My therapist was Lauren at the time and she was absolutely incredible. Worked so hard and no one had a single bad thing to say about her. She was truly a light! Nate the nurse also was professional but lighthearted and genuinely cared.

In my situation I was also dealing with OCD and I wanted to be moved to the OCD program but due to my strong ed (i was in denial) they said i could move to the OCD unit once completed the ED program which i did not want to do so they instead worked with me on OCD exposures and therapeutic treatment while treating my ED at the same time which I found extremely beneficial. Unlike at other treatment centers, Rogers assigned every client a behavioral therapist as well as your primary therapist. My behavioral therapist Molly was phenomenal. made my exposure plan and built a hierarchy of what needed to be worked on while my primary therapist worked with me on healthy coping skills to manage my behaviors/anxieties around the exposures I did.

Another thing that makes Rogers stand out is the experience therapy’s they offered. Treatment is never fun or easy but they did try to make it more appealing so we had therapy’s such as going on walks, gym games, art therapy, sitting games, and more. All of the experiential therapy’s had a key component/lesson added to them to make it therapeutic yet fun. The ET therapists had so many different activities and approaches and found a way to ensure everyone enjoyed what we were doing. We also had a weekly outing where we practiced an exposure in a public setting off grounds which helped prepare me for home. I also loved the nightly walking soccer, just dance, and AM 10 minute walk that gave us all some fun. Other units were able to do more activity however I was surprised and happy with the physical activity they did allow us on the ed unit to do instead of keeping us sat in a chair all day. Even let me do light yoga and walks when I was stressed as that calmed me down.

The dieticians worked seamlessly to create a healthy plan. My growth charts have been off since childhood. They catered to my needs unlike other treatment centers that go off bmi. They found a healthy weight range for me based off other factors. They wanted me to succeed.

The ed unit was clean and homey. I love that U were able to choose own meals. At the time even went to the canteen to get our food (believe this may have changed.) I also loved that you were able to have off ground passes with family for even an entire day. I got to see some of WI while there. It really made treatment more tolerable. Lastly the recovery caretakers were all great. They listened, comforted, and encouraged every client. The grounds of the facility are also beautiful and very well looked after may I add.

When I look back it almost felt like a summer camp. If you are considering Rogers, give it a try.
