My experience has been mixed. There are days when I come in and everything looks great, but,. I’ve been visiting my friend there for over a month. She initially started in rehab and has now been moved to assisted living in a large room with a bathroom, closet, refrigerator, and sink. The room itself is lovely. However, the bed is atrocious, and the lack of cleanliness has been very concerning. On the first day, the bathroom was in complete disarray. It made no sense that she was moved into the room before it was fully ready. She was unable to use the bathroom for over 24 hours, and despite repeated requests to the Director and nursing staff, nothing was done for several more hours because we were told “parts were needed.” What was most disappointing was that no effort was made to mitigate the problem in the meantime — such as suggesting another bathroom on the floor for her use. My friend is not someone who complains, which unfortunately makes situations like this even worse because it falls on her family and friends to advocate for her when we visit. It should not be this way. She is paying nearly $9,000 a month and is not receiving any additional care that would justify the cost. On her first day, she did not even have a bedside table for her meals. Instead, her food tray was left by the sink, where she was physically unable to lift it and bring it to her bed. It is truly a shame that so many of these facilities make wonderful promises, but at the end of the day fail miserably in providing the basic dignity, comfort, and responsiveness that residents deserve.
