Description

Our Philosophy

Our entire mission is to help our residents Live More. Regardless of your age, abilities, and interests, we want to take the stress and responsibilities out of your day-to-day life so you can enjoy and experience every day more fully.

The Hearth provides independent living, assisted living, and memory care for more than 1,800 seniors in 4 states. Senior living is what we do, and we've built our legacy on 4 core values: quality of life, resident care, exceptional service, and affordability. These cornerstones serve as our foundation, creating a safe place for you to Live More.

The Hearth Experience

Independent Living

At The Hearth, independent living is all about taking care of day-to-day tasks so you can Live More. Our highly-trained and genuine staff will take care of all of your housekeeping and maintenance needs. You'll even have all of your meals provided for you with our Hearth-Healthy dining program.

With plenty of events and opportunities to learn something new both at The Hearth and in the local community, there are endless ways to keep your body and mind active.

What is Independent Living?

Independent living is for seniors who can largely care for themselves but want to eliminate the stress of housekeeping. Residents who are a good fit for independent living can still handle day-to-day tasks like bathing and dressing on their own, but may be starting to find tasks like mowing the lawn or vacuuming more difficult.

Independent living residents have their own private apartment with all the comforts of home minus the hard work. Necessities like cleaning, maintenance, and meal preparation are all taken care of, so residents can focus on enjoying their golden years.

Independent Living vs. Assisted Living

Assisted living provides a greater level of care compared to independent living. In assisted living care, staff are available to help with healthcare and personal care. Seniors who have trouble with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication management are a better fit for assisted living.

Independent living is an option for seniors who can live independently but don't want to worry about household chores. Residents who choose independent living can care for themselves but want the convenience of a carefree lifestyle.

How Independent Living Works

Independent living residents have their own apartments. Private apartments give the comforts of home without the hassle. Housekeeping and maintenance are taken care of, so residents don't have to worry about things like dusting or fixing a leaky faucet.

Chef-made meals made from scratch are also included, meaning residents don't have the stress of driving to the grocery store or preparing meals. Instead, residents can focus on what brings them joy. Residents will find events, activities, classes, and more, all on-campus.

Whether you want to visit the library, get your hair done, or join a yoga class, our communities are designed to help residents Live More. Transportation to nearby urban centers is also available, so you're never far from new activities or a day out.

A Typical Day of Independent Living

Activities and events are constantly changing to keep residents engaged. A typical day could include an outing, exercise class, art activity or game. Residents are free to choose from a variety of activities to keep their minds and bodies active.

What is Assisted Living?

Assisted living is designed for residents who require the comfort of 24-hour care. Assisted living care plans are tailored to every resident, meaning residents maintain the highest level of independence while maintaining their well-being.

We take care of all maintenance, housekeeping, and meal preparation. Assistance for other tasks like transportation, medication management, bathing, and dressing is available to assisted living residents as well. By providing a combination of housing, health care, and personal care to assisted living residents, we aim to create a well-rounded lifestyle.

Assisted Living vs. Independent Living vs. Memory Care

Independent living is designed for seniors who don't require as much care. Housing, meals, housekeeping, and maintenance is included in independent living, meaning independent living is for residents who are still able to complete tasks like bathing and dressing on their own. Independent living is an option for those who want more convenience and less stress, but are still largely able to care for themselves.

Assisted living is for residents who need more help handling everyday tasks. In addition to housing, meals, housekeeping, and maintenance, assisted living includes help with bathing, dressing, and medication management. In our assisted living residences, staff are on-site 24-7 to assist whenever a resident is in need.

Memory care offers 24-7 care, similar to assisted living. However, memory care is tailored to residents with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other memory problems, while assisted living is not. The main differences between memory care and assisted living can be seen in the overall security and structure of memory care. Memory care facilities are more secure and have programs and activities designed to enhance memory and cognitive ability.

How Assisted Living Works

Assisted living care is customized for each resident and the level of care they require. Our highly-trained staff is ready to assist when necessary and our assisted living residences are staffed 24 hours a day.

Help is available when needed, but residents are also able to maintain the highest level of independence possible. We offer a variety of programs to ensure our residents get the social interaction, exercise, and enrichment they need.

Assisted Living Services & Amenities

We take care of the day-to-day tasks, but we offer many more services and amenities to create a well-rounded lifestyle for our residents. In addition to housekeeping and meal preparation, we also offer laundry, transportation, and salon services. Beyond our fully-trained staff, we offer amenities like physical therapy as well as exercise classes to keep residents healthy. Social connections are also available through clubs, events, and holiday celebrations.

A Typical Day of Assisted Living

Any day could include an outing, exercise class, art activity or game. We make sure activities and events are constantly changing to keep residents engaged.

What is Memory Care?

Memory care is specialized long-term care for seniors living with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory problems. It's sometimes referred to as a memory care unit, a special care unit, or an Alzheimer's care unit.

Regardless of the name, memory care focuses on caring for residents with memory issues. Memory care residents receive close monitoring and care customized to those with memory loss. The activities and overall schedule are designed to help residents retain memory and promote cognitive abilities. As well, the residence itself is designed with enhanced safety and security for memory care and our staff is specially trained to assist those with memory difficulties.

Memory Care vs. Assisted Living

Assisted living is designed for seniors who can live somewhat independently but may need help with some tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication management. Seniors in the early stages of dementia and Alzheimer's may be a good fit for assisted living, but only memory care is specially designed to care for those with memory issues.

Memory care supports those who cannot live independently, similar to assisted living, but also has specialized aspects to help with memory loss. The environment is more secure and there is a greater level of supervision to prevent wandering. The daily activities will also be focused on memory exercises, helping residents to retain their memory as much as possible.

How Memory Care Works

We use specialized methods to care for your loved ones with memory difficulties, Alzheimer's, and dementia.

The Mosher-Gardens Method

The Mosher-Gardens method is our custom approach to memory care. It's specifically designed to provide memory sensitive residents with holistic care and enrichment. Through this method, we aim to create a safe and comforting environment that minimizes the stress associated with memory loss.

Specialized activities help residents with memory loss through social connection and cognitive exercises. These activities help to reduce anxiety, loneliness, and depression. Special events around holidays also help indicate the passage of time, something that can be difficult for those with memory loss.

Think More

Think More is a combination of activities designed to promote social interaction and mental stimulation. Structured activities like music, arts, crafts, and games help to promote memory and cognitive ability. The small group setting helps residents make social connections, both one-on-one and in group settings.

According to research, the combination of intellectual activities and socialization can help to improve cognition and overall well-being for those with memory difficulties. Memory care residents participate in Think More programming twice per week.

A Typical Day of Memory Care

We aim to strike a balance between familiarity and excitement for our memory care residents. A typical day could include a variety of games, movies, and even trivia to keep minds and bodies active.
