Description

Our Rich History

Over a century ago, members of Chicago's Norwegian-American community, inspired by the dream and determination of Dr. Niles T. Quales, founded the Norwegian Old People's Home. In 1896, the Norwood Park Hotel, located in Norwood Park near Nina Avenue and Avondale Avenue was purchased and served as a respite for Norwegian immigrants who needed a place to age in comfort and dignity. As the Norwegian Old People's Home evolved, so did its place in the neighborhood. The name became so synonymous with the community of Norwood Park, and eventually the facility became known as the Norwood Park Home, and later became Norwood Crossing.

Surviving a major fire, two World Wars, and the Great Depression, the world changed around Norwood Park Home, but our commitment and perseverance remained steadfast. What began as a small, charitable care facility has evolved into an award-winning, full-service, non-profit senior living community. A strong sense of community, great food, cutting-edge care and steady management have been the foundation for our success over the years.

Today, Norwood Crossing serves over 250 residents and continues to be at the forefront of senior living and healthcare, establishing a steadfast reputation of community-inspired, person-centered care. From our modest start as a small, senior hotel in a fledgling neighborhood, Norwood Crossing has evolved into a top flight senior living "community-within-a-community." We are proud to be a part of the rich history of Norwood Park and look forward to continuing our tradition and mission of enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults and Reshaping Aging© in our community and beyond.

Assisted Living

We are here to help

Our licensed Assisted Living facilities fit perfectly for residents who want private accommodations, but require some assistance with day-to-day tasks. We offer a variety of attractive residences in a comfortable, home-like setting.

Individual abilities are taken into consideration when evaluating a resident's need for assistance with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, transportation and taking medications. Professionally-trained nurses and nurses' assistants are available around-the-clock, to provide just the right amount of supportive care, while at the same time encouraging each person to remain as independent as possible.

Fees include delicious meals and snacks, participation in our wide-array of Life Enrichment activities, housekeeping, laundry and linen services along with a full schedule of special events and outings. As a resident, you'll enjoy a wide spectrum of activities, including book clubs, exercise programs, live entertainment, singing and a lively art program.

Memory Support

Alzheimer's Care and Our Memory Support Program

Norwood Crossing's memory support program is dedicated to meeting the daily needs of individuals in the middle to late stages of Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia. Our compassionate staff is sensitive to the individual needs of our memory impaired residents and is committed to preserving the dignity and uniqueness of each person, and making them feel at home. Specially trained in dementia care, our Memory Support staff makes sure that your loved one receives the personalized care they deserve in a safe, secure and nurturing home-like environment.

Respite Stays

Short-Term Respite Stays

Norwood Crossing offers convenient short-term, or respite care, stays for individuals who are recuperating from a hospitalization or need a "home away from home" while their family or caregiver is away. Respite stays are also ideal for seniors who want to "sample" life at Norwood Crossing without a long-term commitment. Guests benefit from the same amenities, activities, and services that our long-term residents enjoy in our state-of-the-art Assisted Living building (including our three dining options and Whole Person Wellness Center). Join us for a few days, a week or two, or a month to experience our award-winning community for yourself.

We recognize the importance of families' needs to leave the Chicago area because of travel plans or the necessity for a short break from caregiving. We will plan with you and your loved one so that just the right amount of care and support is there when it's needed. You'll have peace of mind knowing that your loved one is secure and receiving exceptional care.
