Assisted living is designed to provide seniors in need of or desiring assistance in performing daily necessary tasks with the support that will enable them to live a comfortable, healthy, and happy life.
All of the assisted living centers in the Heritage Senior Communities family are fully licensed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as homes for the aged. As such, these centers provide residents with care and support in a comfortable, home-like setting.
When you’ve decided that you need a home you can call your own, without the worry and hassle of things like yard work, driving, or general maintenance, an inclusive, affordable apartment at an independent senior living community might be the right option for you.
At Heritage Senior Communities, we have six different independent senior living communities with apartments and cottages available around Michigan. Each of our communities offer the choice of spacious one or two-bedroom apartments, or quaint two-bedroom cottages. No matter what option you choose, you’re guaranteed a full kitchen and a balcony or patio, in addition to our wonderful common areas, rec rooms, and the amenities offered to all of our residents.
The needs of those with memory impairments, including Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, often exceed the level of care that can be provided for them at home or in a traditional assisted living setting. To accommodate individuals with memory impairment, many of our assisted living centers have a dedicated unit focused on memory care.
This unit, the Terrace, provides a controlled environment for the care of residents suffering from memory impairments. Memory impairment often causes a decline in communication and social skills in the sufferer, as well as decline in the ability for the individual to perform many tasks they face in daily life. The Terrace has been designed to reduce situations and obstacles that may cause stress in residents, enhancing their quality of life. We also control access to The Terrace for the safety of our residents and the peace of mind of residents’ family members.
• Person-centered care—we plan care to meet the needs of the individual, not to focus on their condition or lost abilities • Guided social interaction with staff, peers, and visitors • Support for family members providing care • Establishing and maintaining daily routines • Support for individuals that allows them to retain as much independence as possible in performing daily tasks • Activities and visual and physical prompts to help residents maintain mental function • Encouragement to participate in senior-friendly physical activity • Enjoyable activities to enhance residents’ joy and self-esteem
In addition, residents of The Terrace also receive the same services and benefits as our other assisted living center residents, included in the basic monthly fee.
• Competent, empathetic staff available at all times to assist with resident needs • Delicious snacks and beverages available on demand, throughout the day • Three daily meals that are homemade and nutritionally sound • A variety of available apartment layouts to meet the needs and preferences of our residents • Lots of scheduled events including games, outings, exercise, worship, crafts, and parties • Housekeeping and laundry service • Monthly wellness checks performed by staff LPNs • Medication assistance, available at all times and supervised by a nurse on staff
Should additional support be required, we also offer supplementary services for an ancillary charge. Additional services include, but are certainly not limited to the following:
• Assistance with dressing, bathing, and grooming • Complex medication administration and testing • Assistance during meals • Assistance with toileting and managing incontinence
Heritage Senior Communities offer short-term or respite care for individuals in need of it. If you need extra support after a hospital stay before returning home or if you just need a short break from caring for a loved one, respite care is available.
Our short-term residents enjoy all the benefits and services as full-time members of our communities, which include:
• A spacious, private studio apartment with comfortable furnishings • Three home-cooked, healthy meals daily, and snacks available on-demand • Various scheduled activities, trips, and events • As-needed medication assistance
Respite care is available at all of our assisted living centers, everyday. A short-term stay with us is for the length of time that your specific situation requires. Some residents come to us for a few months; some just stay for a week.
If you’re considering assisted living, a short-term stay is a great way to try-before-you-buy and determine if assisted living is right for your circumstances.
Heritage also offers adult day care services for those caring for a senior adult at home. Day care is available at every one of our assisted living centers, and it is available everyday, at any time. Day care stays can be for just a few hours while the caregiver runs errands or goes to work, or even for a full day or night.
Individuals in our day care program benefit from medication assistance, structured activities, tasty snacks and meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and quiet space as needed.
Heritage Senior Communities is a fourth generation, family-owned and -operated company dedicated to bringing you quality senior housing and licensed assisted living. Based in Grand Haven, MI, Heritage Senior Communities is managed by Heritage Property Management, Inc., founded by Arthur Reenders in 1946.
Even way back then, when HPM was a small construction company, Arthur’s motto was “I won’t build or own anything I wouldn’t live in myself.” That motto still holds true today, more than 70 years later. As HPM continued to grow and expand, Reenders family members started Heritage Senior Communities in an effort to provide comfortable, secure, and affordable housing to Michigan seniors.
Following Arthur’s motto, we’ve continued to expand to nine assisted living centers and six senior communities over the past 25 years, each of which we would be proud to live in ourselves.
All of the Reenders family business ventures are guided by our uncompromising core values of honesty, quality, respect, teamwork, potential, and balance. Heritage Senior Communities is no different. We believe it’s our job to provide you or your loved one with a safe and secure home where they can live comfortably for the later years of their life. Whether that’s in one of our senior communities or our assisted living centers, we take pride in knowing that we provide only the highest quality of care to all of our residents.
