Assisted Living Services
Selecting the right home can be a daunting task:
Senior housing can take many forms, including independent and assisted living communities, Alzheimer's and dementia care homes, residential care homes (also known as board and care), and skilled nursing facilities.
An assisted living community for seniors provides care for persons who need some help with activities of daily living, yet who wish to remain as independent as possible. These communities bridge the gap between independent living and nursing homes. Residents in assisted living communities aren't able to live by themselves, but they don't require constant care either. Medical care is limited in an assisted living community and each state sets its own limits. Residents are assessed when they move into the community so the community can develop an individualized service plan to ensure that each senior gets the best care possible.
There are about 33,000 assisted living communities in the United States. The number of residents living in a community can range from just a few to over 300, with the most common size being between 25 and 120 individuals. Each community offers different levels of care and charges varying rates. The communities are all designed differently, from high rises to classic Victorians. Room configurations vary from studios to one or two-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes.
Assisted living is appropriate for anyone who can no longer manage to live on their own but doesn't require medical care. Residents may suffer from memory disorders, various diseases, or simply need help with mobility, incontinence, or other challenges.
FREE Assisted Living Services
Since 1996, Always Best Care Senior Services has been changing the way people think about senior living. We take pride in helping seniors foster their independence. We understand what communities are best suited for you, or your loved one.
In order to assist you in your selection of the appropriate assisted living community, Always Best Care has partnered with select properties to advise you of their amenities and services they offer. Because Always Best Care is compensated by our assisted living partners, we are happy to provide our senior housing and assisted living referral services at no charge to you.
With our free referral services, we match our clients with the top three or four of our assisted living partners that offer the most appropriate living options based upon your individual needs, custom screening, and available budgets.
Then, we personally escort our clients and their families on a tour of the matched assisted living communities, residential care homes, Alzheimer's and dementia care communities, or retirement communities so they may decide which senior housing option is best for them. Although our senior housing referral services attempt to match you to the appropriate assisted living partners services based on your needs and preferences, you are under no obligation to select one of those communities.
Always Best Care helps seniors and their families through the entire process. Our Care Coordinators are local and have in-depth knowledge of the services provided by our assisted living partners. Contact your local Always Best Care representative today for your free no-obligation consultation.
Younger Adults Make Up 14% of Nursing Home Population
Most people think of nursing homes as homes for the elderly. But according to a recent report by National Public Radio, there are more than 6,000 young people under the age of 21 living in American nursing homes. There are thousands more who are in their early twenties. In fact, younger people ages 31 to 64 now account for 14 percent of the nursing home population, according to the Department of Health & Human Services. In many cases, nursing homes are now referred to as long-term care facilities or skilled nursing facilities, mostly due to the population they serve. An online article by McKnight's Long-Term Care News & Assisted Living found that very few young adults are interested in participating in the development of their own care plans.
In fact, the biggest challenge for the caregivers in long-term care of young adults is developing a plan of care and getting the residents involved in its development. Separate activity programs are often needed for young adults. They often ask for entertainment and activities that the elderly patients are not interested in, and they want it on a regular basis.
While it is uncertain precisely why the increase of young adults entering long-term care facilities is occurring, the trend is likely the result of limited resources to help people with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or other concerns. They choose not to stay in their homes even though in-home care can be substantially less expensive than nursing home facilities. Even as funds for home-based care have increased in many states, the need for assistance is rising faster, experts say. According to David Caesar, Vice President of Operations at Always Best Care Senior Services, in-home care can be about a third the cost of providing care in a nursing home or institution, depending on the number of hours required to assist the client.
