Independent Living Resource Center is committed to helping people with all kinds of disabilities—physical, mental and developmental—live as independently as possible in the homes and communities of their choice. We do this in a variety of ways, guided by our five core services:
Information and Referral
Peer Support
Independent Living Skills Training

ILRC is a resource for families, friends, caregivers and others concerned about the needs of people with disabilities. As a center for independent living, we are a consumer-directed organization. 51% of ILRC’s board of directors and staff members are persons with disabilities. ILRC works with our consumers, rather than for them, to help find solutions to fit their particular needs. We believe individuals with disabilities are entitled to the same rights, options and control over their lives as everyone else.

Individuals with disabilities are entitled to the same civil rights, options and control over their lives as those without disabilities. The Independent Living Resource Center provides a variety of services for persons with all types of disabilities – temporary or permanent – within our own agency and guides them in the process of selecting optimal care for their needs.

ILRC provides assistance in locating resources, whether internal or external, to people with disabilities. Additional options are offered by other social services agencies and service providers, with whom we work closely. We also work with and are a resource for families, friends, caregivers and others who need information or assistance to help them choose the best options for them. We believe that people with disabilities are in the best position to know what kind of services and help they need to live independently.

The Independent Living Resource Center offers a variety of free classes and activities throughout each week and month. If you require special accommodations to participate in our classes, please call ILRC one week in advance at (316) 942-6300.

We are unable to provide transportation, but ILRC is accessible by public buses and paratransit service. Wichita Transit West Route #14 #14 W Douglas / Meridian / S High School / Pawnee Plaza has a pickup and drop off location at ILRC. Please see Wichita’s bus schedule and call prior to attending a class for the first time to discuss our services and program guidelines with an ILRC Consumer Advocate.
